Early Childhood Auslan Language Teacher – Part-time

Ormond Community Kindergarten is currently seeking suitably qualified applicants for the position of Early Childhood Language Teacher. The successful applicant will work closely with existing staff to support aspects of the education program in Auslan. The Early Childhood Language Teacher will receive dedicated time for planning to support program delivery.

Background

Ormond Community Kindergarten (OCK) is a sessional 3 and 4-year-old kindergarten service run by a volunteer parent committee with strong links to our local community. We are located in Ormond, in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne on the land of the Boon wurrung people of the Kulin Nations.

We are a well-resourced centre and our indoor and outdoor environments support all aspects of children’s learning and development. Our programs are based on the VEYLDF & EYLF and their guiding principles, practices and outcomes.

We welcome each child’s uniqueness and assist them to create their own through play-based learning. We encourage them to explore, take risks, use their imagination, laugh and we listen to them and encourage them to listen to others. We offer a variety of incursions including dance and drama and weekly playball sessions as well as our own pet program.

As a not for profit, we strive to form strong, meaningful, inclusive relationships with each other, the children, families and our wider community.


The Role:

Ormond Community Kindergarten will be delivering the Early Childhood Language Program (an initiative from the Victorian Department of Education and Training) in Auslan until 31 December 2022.

The Early Childhood Language Program has been rolled out to over 200 early childhood services offering a state funded kindergarten for children in the year before school. As part of this program, children across Victoria will be given the opportunity to learn in a language other than English for part of their state-funded kindergarten program. In partnership with existing staff, the Early Childhood Language Teacher will be responsible for the delivery of the language program.

The Early Childhood Language Program will be delivered in accordance with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and children will be encouraged to learn through exploration, problem-solving and play in another language.

The Early Childhood Language Teacher will receive dedicated time for planning to support program delivery.

We have two, four-year-old groups and require a teacher for each group. Your hours will be spread across Monday to Thursday as follows:

Ideally you will have:

  • Qualifications and experience in early childhood (Early Childhood Teacher preferred, Diploma qualified educators or Primary School Teachers are also encouraged to apply)

  • Fluent Auslan language skills

  • A solid understanding of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with existing early childhood staff in the kindergarten program to plan and deliver the language program

  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning to further develop skills, expertise and teaching capacity

Remuneration

All remuneration and conditions are as per the VECTEA 2020 enterprise agreement.
